Gita Jayanti Maha Yajna
Posted January 20, 2011
Thousands flocked ISKCON Secunderabad temple, in a gold rush to see 21 kunda Gita Jayanti maha yajna on Vaikuntha Ekadasi. This almost resulted in a stampede but presence of a Police contingent and NCC cadets saved the day.
In the evening of 17th December, 2010, 21 simultaneous fire sacrifices were held. Thousands chanted in unison and offered oblation with a resounding ‘svaha’.
10 chapters of Bhagavad-gita were recited while offering oblation, in the full presence of state media.
Each sponsorer was gifted 21 Gitas and to the crowds that gathered, devotees sold many more, taking the total tally on that day to several thousand.
The program was telecast in all major TV channels and all newspapers covered the story next day.
In South India, Vaikuntha Ekadasi, which coincides with Gita Jayanti, has special significance as people believe that taking darshan of the Lord on that day gives them a passage to Vaikuntha planets, the spiritual world.
