Moscow Temple Expropriated; Help and Prayers Needed
Posted October 13, 2011
I would like to urgently request the worldwide community of devotees to pray for the Moscow ISKCON Temples and for its devotees. On Friday, September 30 the devotees were served with an official notice of eviction, and they will be required to vacate the property by November 30.
The land had originally been provided to the devotees by the Northern Administrative Zone of the Government of Moscow Region as a replacement home when the Bhagavaya Temple location had been destroyed by officials to build offices and apartments in 2004. Now the current location in Dinamo is also in serious jeopardy.
The Moscow ISKCON Temple is in very real danger of being closed down by the local Moscow Government officials, the legal owners of the property. This is a total shock to the Russian devotees, who had thought that the local government would have allowed them more time to prepare for building and relocating to their future purpose-built temple. The effect will be to make Moscow ISKCON homeless and to leave their Lordships Sr Sri Gaura Nitai without a location for regular service in Moscow.
As a longtime ISKCON devotee who has lived in Moscow for over ten years, I can say that this crisis is heartbreaking. I ask devotees to help in any way possible to support the Russian devotee community with prayers and assistance from the worldwide community of iskcon devotees for ISKCON Moscow. I humbly ask you all to sincerely pray for the local GBC, for Temple devotees and for Russian devotees in general during this time of crisis and to give them what aid and support you can.
Srila Prabhupada's Moscow devotees and temple are very dear to him, and I
humbly ask my godbrother and godsister prabhus at this difficult time to be open and generous to assist Moscow ISKCON in its urgent crisis. Please contact me, Jaya Madhava Das by e-mail at jayamadhavadas -at- hotmail.com for information.
