Soldiers Observe Iraq Rathayatra
Posted November 23, 2007
From first light, people were waiting for the Lord's darshan. At around noon the Lord made His appearance, much to the pleasure of all assembled. The turnout was not as big as we had hoped for, but considering the circumstances I believe it was a success. About 50 to 75 souls, hungry and eager for the Lord's mercy, chanted and danced. A simple feast of dhal and rice (and Ratna-bhusana prabhu's famous cookies) filled the stomachs of all. While the procession was not a long distance and everything was very simple, I feel the efforts of all involved and of all those who attended were the true offering. Many came away from this Rathayatra will a deeper understanding of spiritual life. For a moment, a portion of Iraq was transformed into Vaikuntha. I will be posting photos in the next few days when I am settled into my new area of preaching. |
On November 14, the anniversary of Srila Prabhupada's disappearance,
we successfully completed the first Iraq Rathayatra. Originally the
Rathayatra had been scheduled for January, but due to my moving to a
different part of Iraq, we arranged for all preparations to be
completed within two days. After some unexpected issues came to light
from the authorities, everything was set to go.
